January Featured Photographer Taylor Dempsey

What services do you provide and what are your business goals?

I provide wedding related sessions (wedding days, elopements, bridal and engagement sessions), maternity sessions and casual couples sessions. As well as photo, I offer super 8. I will be offering portrait sessions later this year! My business goal is to provide meaningful art captured through a lens. It’s to create tangible memories for others and form meaningful connections with each of my clients.

What first drew you to photography, and how did you get started in the field?

I did photography in high school and realized how much I loved capturing people’s memories and giving them back to them. There’s something so satisfying and happy about seeing someone relive important memories.

Who or what inspires your artistic style the most?

Nicole Plett, Miles Leav Photo and Foto Gems all inspire me as people in this industry; films also inspire me. You can learn a lot of composition, color, and emotion from movies.

What challenges have you faced in turning your passion for photography into a business?

You have to learn more than just using a camera. You have to learn what colors go together/compliment one another, what poses evoke emotion, how to work with people you’ve never met and how to run a business. Running my passion as a business but still keeping it a passion has probably been the hardest part.

What advice would you give to emerging photographers looking to start their own business?

It’s said a lot but practice. Find friends and models, try new poses and lighting. And then also being honest. Be honest about what you offer and what you can do, when you’ll deliver photos, etc. That kind of goes hand in hand with communication as well: HAVE GOOD COMMUNICATION.

Why did you choose Studio Elevn for your photoshoot?

Studio Elevn offers the perfect amount of space, lighting and equipment for my sessions. It’s easy to find and book, and the owners are THE best.
